So, this post will be containing about 5 questions which people asked me when I was in Taiwan.
(Why is your skin fairer than them?)
-DON’T ask me, maybe it’s because of gene or hormones.
(Why do they hijab?)
-Because she is a Muslim and most of them actually used it.
(Then why you didn’t use it?)
-Because I’m Buddhism.
(You just came here for few months, why your Chinese is so good?)
-Because I’m an Indonesian Born Chinese (?)
(Are you a Hongkong people/Taiwanese/Korean?
-I am an Indonesian.

There are still many other questions such as does Taiwan a good place to play, have you done walking all the places in Taiwan? Kinda good; not yet.
Taiwan is a big place, I’m glad and grateful enough that I am not lost.
And FYI, Some Indonesians can Chinese language, and most of them are friendly. We had the Muslim, Christian, Buddhism, Hindu, etc. Indonesia is a large country and there are a lot of islands, so don’t ask me whether I had finished travelled around Indonesia or not. I have no money and not enough time to travel.

Hey, do you remember that last time I posted something about the embarrassing moment in Taiwan? And here is the spin off story!
I am marked as clumsy from my friends and I am trying to change that. The day after the embarrassing moment, I was still trying hard to move on about the incident. Although in the end I don’t mind much anymore because I’m busy for personal matters.
I skipped the morning class but I did the tasks in my room so I wasn’t considered as absent I think. I attended the afternoon class, sit and listened to whatever I don’t understand. I was focusing on what should I have for dinner instead of the class.
And then hotpot came out on my mind. I was thinking of going to Eda mall for hotpot as my dinner. I asked my friends and none of them are going with me so in the end I decided to go alone. In the middle of the class too, I checked whether I bring my wallet or not. If yes I don’t have to make a turn back to the dorm. But it turns out nothing. I didn’t bring and actually I had a small bad feeling, because I never forgot to bring my wallet whenever I went outside and that was my first time. I ran back to my room immediately after I finished my class. It turns out the wallet is nowhere to be found! My roommates then find together with me and it turns out nothing as result. I wasn’t so desperate though but I decided to make a report to the police station the next day.
The next day, after my morning class I went to the nearest police station to make a report. I was feeling okay although it was my first time going to a police station to make report. There are 3 policemen there. They have their quite fierce faces and I was afraid that I might spoke something that I wasn’t supposed to. But then, the one guy that made the report with me was quite humorous, he talked a lot and they are actually interested on why I can speak Chinese language fluently because I just arrived in Taiwan for 3 months. They even gave me a drink (maybe they think that I am afraid or nervous and I need a glass of water to calm down).
After we had the interview stuffs record and the report done. I was quite glad because it was finished within the time and I just need to wait for a few minutes for bus. When I was going out, the policeman asked whether I want to take a ride or not because they are going to the place I’m going to go too. I felt flustered, because my imagination runs wild, I afraid something bad will happen and I said no it’s okay, I don’t want to bother you, I will just take the bus. And he replied me by asking a question and answered by himself. In the end, I sit their car and they drove me back. The road feels like so short because I was pretty amazed by myself since it was my first time sitting a police car and it happened in a foreign country! I felt so grateful yet awkward because they dropped me off in front of my dormitory which of course is a good thing since it saved my time but when I get off from their car, the security nods his head to me and I have no idea what does it means so I nod back… (felt awkward after that)

茶叶蛋 or cha ye dan

This type of egg is the one that added tea leaves when it was boiling. It was a type of traditional foods in China. Which tastes good, quite cheap and some of them stated that it can refresh yourself which means works like coffee effects (since it is with tea). But then some professionals stated that it could harm your stomach. So let’s study about this a bit!

Eggs: which is so easy to find anywhere and I guess most Asian couldn’t live without these, the benefits of eating are a lot, not to mention that eggs contain amino acids, proteins and others elements that could make yourself healthier.

Tea: contains caffeine, it helps you to refresh and away from fatigue, beside it also contains tannic acid which can effectively prevent stroke and fluoride which can prevent dental disease. Two types of tea:
-black tea can effectively prevent skin cancer
-green tea contain tea polyphenols which is excellent antioxidants, anti-cancer, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory sterilization.

However, if you eat cha ye dan, the elements in the tea will combine with the calcium in eggs which later will prevent digestion and absorption in human bodies. Aside from that, this type of egg will also cause cancer if you eat a lot, because the process of cooking this egg will produce nitrite and other elements which will cause cancer. Last but not the least it will also cause anemia since it produce ferrous sulfide which will be cons for human bodies to absorb iron which later cause you anemia.

Do you have an embarrassing moment? Are you trying hard to remove it from your life or memory? Me, whenever I have an embarrassing moment, it actually scarred and stayed in my memory, it is really annoying because I tend to remember the embarrassing moment than the other more important stuffs such as studies, works and etc.
I remember once, when I was in Taiwan, I had my first embarrassing moment in Taiwan. That was a day when I went out all by myself and I was used to it though. I went to buy some daily needs and some knitting needs. When I was going back, I took the train and managed to get to the bus station for the bus.
And here comes the moment, embarrassing moment supposed to be just a moment but some will lasted and it makes you to think of it every time and makes you feel embarrassed. And I still felt the embarrassed…
When I was waiting in line, I was like just eating foods because I am so hungry. People tend to look at me because I wore a mask. I removed and used the mask every time I took a bite maybe this made me looked weird.
I waited for quite a moment until the bus came, I was so shocked because that was the first female bus driver I ever met after I came to Taiwan. She went to shop for a while I think in the nearest mall since she got her break time (women will always be women LOL).
I entered the bus as usual, and when I sit on my seat, I thought I should listen to songs. I used my headset and open the music on my phone. I was listening until I heard continuously a music which I never heard before and thinking that it was weird, I never had this kind of music on my phone.
I take a look on my phone and then, I realized I didn’t plug my headset and the music on my phone was on loudspeaker. I was so shocked back then and closed the music as soon as I could. After I closed it, then I heard the music that I never heard before. It turns out that that was the music that the driver chose.
I felt so awkward since there was somebody sitting beside me, but he didn’t tell me though. What a bad life a lead. And to remind you the music was ongoing like for 2 minutes before I realized it.
So, please be careful and alert whether you plug in the headset or not when you are in public places!

Hi! It was just 1247AM right now and it’s Christmas!!!

So I am going to share a destination that I went yesterday, “Shou Shan Zoo” or “寿山动物园”. The ticket price is just only 20 NTD for students while for full price it is 40NTD which is also consider as standard for you to walk this large place!

There are around two to three places that sell foods, two restrooms and they even got several souvenirs shops for you! And the point is you don’t have to be afraid that you would get tired, because they provided you benches almost everywhere. I even had my lunch which I bought myself from my dorm when I went there.

These are the list of animals that you might get to see there! (sometimes the place the animals lived are closed down due to some reasons so you won’t get to see them)

There are quite a lot of animals that are not in the zoo when I went there on 23 December 2017, such as Formosan black bear, ferret, etc. They owned only one python, one elephant, one America bison and one pygmy hippopotamus.

When I was taking the picture with the green iguana, I was so shocked that the iguana actually stops its movement and stayed like a mannequin! And when I passed through the kid’s farm, I was given by the man two pieces of grass or something that the goat likes to eat, and I realized the goat actually know it and came closer to me. Thankfully they are not so wild. I touched their heads and feel their fur which is a bit rough. Oh and their rabbits looked fluffy and sooooooooooo fat! While their crocodiles and camel are so large, twice or thrice of me I think.

Wtf did I do this year?
I am not sure, but to sums up my 2017 life, it is not quite bad though. I mostly remember big events only and all of them are good one, such as……….
1.       I quitted, yes I didn’t resume my contract to be a teacher, maybe it will be one of my regret but for now, I am quite glad to stop in the path and gave myself a second of thoughts, where I think I am not suitable to be a teacher, although I would like to teach kindergarten or elementary students where I think it will be so much fun. I believe that all choices which we all take are good, so if you feel regret on the choice you took, try to think the positive way in it, you will feel much better.
2.       I had my studies in Taiwan for four months. This is quite tough because I need to survive on limited amount of money since I don’t want to make my parents stressed up because of me. I was the one who plead them so much to let me to study in Taiwan, at first they won’t allow me because they afraid that I couldn’t take care of myself, and yes I am a person that had no plans of the day, I do whatever I want on that day so that’s why sometimes I can’t settle my deadline works (SOMETIMES ONLY). But I was totally glad that they allowed me to go to Taiwan, there are a lot of stuffs that I learnt in there, not only in studies but also life matters.
3.       I spent my 20th years old birthday in Taiwan! Which is quite memorable because I am in the first year of head 2 and this made me decided that I will do something memorable every year on my birthday or birth-month.
4.       Joined a Christmas event which is the first time in my whole life! Well, it’s funny because the day before I went to the event, I went to a Buddhism Museum and watched a Buddhism cartoon about kindness and stuffs. And I started to think it is totally different where Buddhism talks more about being calm and peace while the event that I joined was like asking us to join their plays, about getting merrier and merrier.
5.       Ate hotpots! The first time I had this kind of hotpot! Of course it is different with the one that I eat every Chinese New Year. There are meats where you can choose beef or pork or lamb. And you can choose others side dish, I can’t finish it though (as usual), the vegetables only, there are a lot of vegetables (maybe I ordered the wrong one).
6.       Trying hard to finish a lot of dramas before the month end! Just for 3weeks I had finished a lot! Because I don’t want to feel that I didn’t achieve anything.
7.       Last big event is, I am HAPPY and BLESSED.
P.S.: Actually I’m quite glad that Semester 2 and 3 made me relieved a bit after what I experienced in Semester 1, where my schedule was totally packed even on weekends.
I am glad that I had given a chance to this, where I can go to Taiwan and try to live my life without family, to be honest I missed a bit about Batam, especially the seafood, chicken rice, bak kut the, aboleng and my guling.

Winter Solstice is here!!! Although I had been staying in Taiwan where my school canteen had a stand that sell these, but I still craved for it! (too expensive I cant afford to buy).

Dong Zhi or Winter Solstice
Traditionally, the Dongzhi Festival is also a time for the family to get together. One activity that occurs during these get-togethers (especially in the southern parts of China and in Chinese communities overseas) is the making and eating of tangyuan (湯圓) or balls of glutinous rice, which symbolize reunion. Tangyuan are made of glutinous rice flour and sometimes brightly coloured. Each family member receives at least one large tangyuan in addition to several small ones. The flour balls may be plain or stuffed. They are cooked in a sweet soup or savory broth with both the ball and the soup/broth served in one bowl. It is also often served with a mildly alcoholic unfiltered rice wine containing whole grains of glutinous rice (and often also Sweet Osmanthus flowers), called jiuniang.
In northern China, people typically eat dumplings on Dongzhi. It is said to have originated from Zhang Zhongjing in the Han Dynasty. On one cold winter day, he saw the poor suffering from chilblains on their ears. Feeling sympathetic, he ordered his apprentices to make dumplings with lamb and other ingredients, and distribute them among the poor to keep them warm, to keep their ears from getting chilblains. Since the dumplings were shaped like ears, Zhang named the dish "qùhán jiāoěr tāng" (祛寒嬌耳湯) or dumpling soup that expels the cold. From that time on, it has been a tradition to eat dumplings on the day of Dongzhi.
Old traditions also require people with the same surname or from the same clan to gather at their ancestral temples to worship on this day. There is always a grand reunion dinner following the sacrificial ceremony.
The festive food is also a reminder that celebrators are now a year older and should behave better in the coming year. Even today, many Chinese around the world, especially the elderly, still insist that one is "a year older" right after the Dongzhi celebration instead of waiting for the lunar new year.

To Taiwanese people, the festival in winter also plays a very important role. It is also a tradition for Taiwanese to eat tangyuan on this day. They also use the festive food as an offering dish to worship the ancestors.
In an interesting twist, in accordance with ancient Taiwanese history, many people take some of the tangyuan that have been used as offerings and stick them on the back of the door or on windows and tables and chairs. These "empowered" tangyuan supposedly serve as protective talismans to keep evil spirits from coming close to children.
In addition to following some of the customs practiced on mainland China, the people of Taiwan have their own unique custom of offering nine-layer cakes as a ceremonial sacrifice to worship their ancestors. These cakes are made using glutinous rice flour in the shape of a chicken, duck, tortoise, pig, cow, or sheep, and then steamed in different layers of a pot. These animals all signify auspiciousness in Chinese tradition.
Another interesting custom in Taiwan is that many people take invigorating tonic foods during this particular winter festival. To the Taiwanese, winter is a time when most physical activities should be limited and you should eat well to nourish your body. This practice follows the habits shown by many animals which follow the law of nature and hibernate throughout winter months to rejuvenate and to preserve life. In order to fight cold temperatures, it is necessary to eat more fatty and meaty foods during winter when your body can better absorb the rich and nutritional foods at this time due to a slower metabolic rate.

Since Dongzhi is the "Extreme of Winter", Taiwanese regard it as the best time of the year to take tonic foods. Some of the most widely popular winter tonic foods enjoyed by Taiwanese to fight cold and strengthen the body's resistance are mutton hot pot and ginger duck hot pot. Other foods like chicken, pork, and abalone are also common materials used in making tonic foods with nurturing herbs such as ginseng, deer horn, and the fungus cordyceps.

View from my University to MRT Station

I was wondering why everybody keeps on asking me why am I in Taiwan and some of the way of asking sounds despised. And now I am going to tell you that I was taking the International Program which is exchange student to Taiwan, and it was only a semester. So I will be back soon.
A lot of you asked me how to get this program. I will tell you all the points to aware if you are going to take the exchange program.

First of all, if you are going to join an exchange program, make sure you have the abilities, in both financial and knowledge. Usually they will choose the one which has good grades and has a financial background. BE AWARE that if you take the scholarship this doesn’t totally mean that you will get full scholarship! Try to make sure with the coordinator who helped you. Ask him/her whether you need to pay for dormitory, VISA, flights and tuition fees or not. Because usually scholarship only cover your tuition fees, but not to mention it is depends by the university that you register yourself in this program.

After you are sure about the abilities, you may register yourself!
For my University, I paid for the flights, dormitory, VISA and admin fees (these are all I can remember I have a bad memory). DO NOT ask me about the prices! Because it will change anytime, just make sure that you keep your wallet thick (of money, not bills).
In case any of you would like to come to my University in Taiwan, I will share some information about here!

I lived in Dormitory 3 which is the fashion street one, in other words, Dormitory 3 is nearer to EDA Outlet Mall than the building I need to go every weekday for class! Usually it was around 1000steps and 10 minutes to get to the building (FYI, my steps). So if you don’t want to walk so far and it is REALLY tiring, you may take the Dormitory 1, which is nearer, but there are 4beds for a room (Tiring for ME, because I was used to drive instead of walking, well you can think that I am working out. 2000steps to get to class and back dorm).

I took the International Finance, so my building is International College, which inside this building mostly are International department students. They had their own management building, science and engineering building, teaching building and admin building. And also for the medical building, this is stated aside from the buildings because this building is special! Unlike others, this medical building for medical students are located near the EDA Hospital, it is not near the IC building (yes you can’t get to see the oppa who learn medicine like Doctor Stranger).

I think that’s all for now! In the next post I will talk to you about facilities here! Stay tune, remember to share to your friend in case it is useful, follow my facebook fanpage ile ustimih
